The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor.

Luke 4:18-19

Brief History

The Diocese of Mzuzu has come a long way since the time it began as the Prefecture Apostolic of Northern Malawi which was erected on 18th May 1947. A lot of hard work, dedication and commitment both by missionaries, indigenous clergy and religious and laity has made The Diocese into a modern entity which promotes holistic spiritual development of not only the  human person but of the whole of creation

About Us

The Diocese comprises of not only parishes and all their subdivisions but also several commissions (Pastoral, Development, Justice and Peace, Health, Education, Communications, Liturgy, Catechetical), all of which promote holistic ministry. Thus, The Diocese continues to respond to the commands of the Lord, ‘Go out to the whole world and proclaim the Good News’ (Mt 28: 18-20) and ‘as you go, preach, saying, ‘the kingdom of heaven is at hand’, (Matthew 10:7).
